Comment / Questions about Standard In-Ground Dog Fence Kits

I'm getting ready to put in a new underground dog fence ..QUESTION: Will i need to remove the old wire from the ground ? (the old wire is- of course- not going to be hooked up to a transmitter) Most articles indicate the old wire should cause no problem as long old wire isn't hooked up - But did see an article that indicated the old wire could cause problems - FYI the area being contained is basically identical to where the old wire is... was planning to lay the new wire about 5 feet from where the old wire is.

The reason it is suggested to remove the old wire is that it may pick up the signal from the new wire and create correction zones in areas you did not want. Our suggestion would be to layout your perimeter and get everything hooked up to test out the boundary area before burying the wire. This way you can be sure you are getting the boundary you are looking for.

I need a system for a 6 lb. dog. Do you have any like that? Most seem to be for larger dogs.

Flexpetz

Hello Judy,

You will probably be most interested in the Elite Little Dog fence. That system is designed specifically for dogs between 5-50 lbs. That system comes in 2 packages. The first is the standard factory package, and that can be viewed HERE.

Also, that system comes in the Pro Grade package. This is a package designed to add longevity and warranty coverage to the system. It comes with top grade dog fence wire, top grade dog fence surge protection unit, extended warranty, and a handful of other niceties. That package can be viewed HERE.

I expect to sell my house in the next 60 to 120 days and I have two dogs that won't stay home....One is 3-5 pounds and one is 35 pounds., given that I am selling, I am thinking to put in an above ground system that can easily be moved. I want a very basic package that I can install readily! What is your recommendation? Thank you, Chris..

Flexpetz

Hello Chris,
For our in ground basic systems none of them would be good for installing above ground unless you got an upgrade on the wire to 14 gauge.
Another good option is to go with a wireless system.
They are very portable.
As long as you have a nice flat surface and a non-metal roof you would be in great shape to use a wireless system for your babies.
Here is a video link to a wireless system that would be ideal for you:
