Pet Barrier Collars

Indoor/Outdoor pet barriers are a popular tool used to keep your pet away from certain areas of your home or yard. Pet barriers can be used in conjunction with some in-ground dog fence systems, allowing you to use the barrier and the dog fence, without the need for an extra collar.  Pet barrier systems can also be used on their own.

If you want to take advantage of indoor/outdoor pet barriers there are a variety of collars that are compatible with both indoor and outdoor pet barriers. If you are intending to install an in-ground electric dog fence, you will be delighted to know that there are in-ground dog fences with collars that are compatible with your indoor dog fence system.

Indoor Pet Barriers

Indoor pet barriers can be placed anywhere in the house in order to stop your pet from entering or leaving a restricted area or create an off-limits area that your pet will learn to avoid. These small, disk-shaped units are either battery operated or use a power adapter and wall outlet. The pet barriers work on the same avoidance principle as an electric dog fence. Your dog wears a compatible collar (either a pet barrier collar or the collar of a compatible in-ground dog fence system) that receives the radio waves emitted by the pet barrier unit. When you dog gets too close to the off-limits area he’ll be warned with a tone. If he continues towards the off-limits zone a static correction will be delivered to encourage him back away from the area.

There are two main types of pet barriers - the PetSafe Pawz Away Pet Barriers and the PetSafe Indoor Radio Fence Pet Barrier. If you plan to use a pet barrier in conjunction with an in-ground electric dog fence you’ll need to choose compatible systems.

Pet Barriers As Stand Alone Systems

Pet barriers aren’t just for electric dog fence users! Pet barriers can also be used on their own and even in conjunction with a physical fence. While a physical fence may stop your dog from wandering off, it won’t protect your flower garden from being dug up or your kids’ play structure from being “showered”. A pet barrier can!

Pet barriers can be used as stand-alone systems both within and outside of your home to keep your dog from entering or accessing certain areas. To use a pet barrier as a stand alone system without a compatible pet fence you’ll need the barrier and a compatible collar. The PetSafe Indoor Radio Fence can be used as a stand alone pet barrier by choosing any of the PetSafe In-Ground Fence collars pictured in the image above. 

The PetSafe Pawz Away Pet Barriers can be used as a stand alone system by pairing the transmitter with either the PetSafe YardMax Pet Fence Collar or the PetSafe Pawz Away Indoor/Outdoor Barrier Collar.

Adding A Dog

If you are adding a dog to your existing pet fence and/or pet barrier system you’ll need an additional collar. Adding a collar to your pet barrier system is simple and requires no set up at all. Simply purchase a compatible collar, fit it to your dog, and it will automatically pair with the pet barrier transmitter(s) you've set up. There is no limit to how many collars can be used with your pet barrier transmitter simultaneously. You can have one for each cat or dog in your home. Remember that all collars will be subject to the same barrier zones.
