Surge protection is an important way to protect your investment. Can you imagine losing the time and money you put into researching, purchasing, and installing your dog fence system to a freak lightening strike or unforeseen power surge? What’s worse, should such an event happen while you’re away from home, your dogs may be left completely unprotected. A professional surge protection device is a simple and inexpensive way to guard your investment and your pets against a power surge that could wreak havoc on your electric dog fence system.
A surge protection unit is a small box that installs between your electric dog fence transmitter and the power outlet to protect the transmitter against an electrical surge coming from the power main. The transmitter power cord is plugged into the surge protection unit, which is then plugged into the wall outlet power source. The boundary wire is also run through the surge protector before continuing into the transmitter box.
The surge protector effectively guards your transmitter against a surge originating on the perimeter line (like that of a lightening strike) by neutralizing the surge before it reaches the transmitter.
A factory grade surge protection device will short out in the event of a major power surge, taking the electrical hit itself rather than allowing the surge to continue through to the transmitter box.
A professional grade surge protector will disconnect outgoing power in the instance of a catastrophic electrical surge to protect the transmitter. The unit will absorb smaller surges allowing for uninterrupted fence function. Professional grade surge protectors also have a higher surge current rating allowing them to dissipate larger surges than the factory grade surge protection devices.
Our surge protection devices are compatible with all of our electric dog fence systems (unless otherwise stated on the product information page). Surge protectors are easy to use and relatively unobtrusive, plugging right into the wall outlet where you install your transmitter box.
