What Are Basic Remote Trainers?

Home remote trainers are basic, easy to use, systems. The differences between these home and yard trainers and systems that are suitable for use in the field comes from the quality of the collar, signal range, and stimulation level choices. Most dog fence training product manufacturers offer an entry level system or two that are perfect for basic obedience training and problem solving for pets at home and at the dog park. These basic systems are easier to use than remote training systems designed for use with hunting or other working dogs in the field. 

Remote Trainers For Basic Obedience Training

To use a remote training collar for training, the collar needs to have two things - a wide range of stimulation levels adjustable on the remote transmitter and continuous stimulation. To use a remote training collar for basic obedience training you need to be able to increase the stimulation level by small increments until you find the perfect setting for your dog - one that gets the dog's attention without causing her to vocalize or overreact. In training with a remote collar, you want to be able to use stimulation continuously until the dog responds appropriately to the command. The stimulation is not used as an aversion but rather as a signal. When the dog is being asked to obey he feels the stim, when he does obey the stim stops, signaling that he is doing the right thing. 

Remote Trainers For Problem Solving

Any collar we sell can be used to stop problem behavior. In curbing unwanted behavior like digging, chewing, chasing, raiding the trash, jumping, etc., stimulation is immediately activated when the dog engages in the unwanted behavior. In this method we are using aversion training, where the stimulation is an unpleasant consequence of certain behaviors. In this way we teach the dog to avoid these behaviors to avoid the unpleasant stimulation. 

Remote Trainers Are Not Ideal For Barking Issues

Many people come to us looking for a remote trainer to solve a barking issue. While remote training collars can be used to tackle nuisance barking, we recommend an automatic bark control collar for this purpose. A remote training collar will work, but requires you to be present when your dog is barking to activate the correction manually. An automatic bark control collar detects the movement of your dog's vocal chords and automatically corrects the barking behavior whether or not you're around to hear it.
