The PetSafe Wireless system is an excellent choice for those wanting portability with quick set-up and take down - great for people who travel with their dogs. Plug in the wireless transmitter, set the radius size and you're ready to start training your dog. The wireless dog fence does have some limitations - the wireless signal is projected in a circle so although you choose the size, the shape can only be a circle of up to 180 ft. across (about a 1/2 acre). Another downside is the variability that comes with a wireless signal. No digging, splicing, or twisting wire is certainly convenient but it also means that the boundaries can fluctuate a bit depending on conditions. The lack of rechargeable collar is a big disappointment. Such a convenient system but it requires a PetSafe proprietary battery.

Summary: A reliable wireless system offering up to a ½ acre of coverage. Requiring virtually no installation, the system is perfect for owners who often travel with their pets. The receiver collar is not rechargeable and does require a replaceable proprietary PetSafe battery.

Considerations for a wireless fence:

• You should have minimal landscaping
• There should be no aluminum or stucco
• Any metal buildings or large vehicles should be excluded from the boundary area
• Severe sloping can interfere with the wireless signal

  • Receiver Collar
  • Wireless Transmitter
  • 50 Boundary Flags
  • PetSafe RFA-67 Proprietary Battery
  • Test Light Tool
  • Power Adapter
  • Operating & Training Guide

  • Waterproof: The PetSafe Wireless receiver collar is fully waterproof. The nylon collar band and plastic clip closure are easy for you and comfortable for your pet.
  • Suitable For Most Dogs: The PetSafe Wireless system collar fits dogs weighing 8 lbs. or more and with neck sizes between 6 and 28 inches.
  • Individual Correction Levels: The system can handle an unlimited number of pets each with their own receiver collar. Each collar can be individually set to the appropriate correction level for the pet wearing that collar. The collar features 5 static correction levels as well as a tone only mode for training.
  • Proprietary PetSafe Replaceable Battery: A major drawback of this system is the use of the non-rechargeable proprietary PetSafe 6V battery. The battery life will depend on how often the pet approaches the boundary zone.
  • Low Battery Indicator: The LED indicator light will flash once every 5 seconds to indicate a low battery.
  • Short and Long Probes: The collar comes equipped with both long and short collar probes for long and short hair dogs respectively.

  • Portable: A key feature of the PetSafe Wireless system is portability. The transmitter needs only an outlet for installation and can be quickly and easily taken along and installed wherever you take your pets.
  • Boundary Size: The diameter of the containment circle can be adjusted using the Boundary Control Dial. The transmitter has a maximum range of 90ft. in all directions (roughly a half acre circle).
  • Expandable Boundary: The size of the containment zone can be increased by the addition of transmitters to create overlapping circles. An unlimited number of transmitters can be added, however the need to keep them all in a weatherproof indoor area may limit the number.

  • Limited Lifetime Warranty: As with all PetSafe containment systems the Wireless System is covered by a limited lifetime warranty. This means that the system is fully covered for one year and then enjoys a lifetime of fixed rate repairs.

  1. Works Ok Review by Shannon Conellin

I bought this system for the main reason of having two homes (Snowbirds we are). We have a home up north in Hampton, NJ and a home down in Jupiter, FL. I bought the fence just this past year and It worked great 100% in Jupiter. We have flat land with not to much going on and it was wonderful and had no issues with it. When we traveled back up north to NJ we brought it with us loving the fact that it was portable and could travel both ways with it. That was when I was a little disappointed. The land up north is hilly and has a lot of trees. There is a section of the yard that goes down hill and it is a significant decline in the land. I was not thinking the fence would have an issue with any of this, I just read the reviews and thought it would be a great idea and I didn't really see any reviews with what I am experiencing at our NJ house. There are points that the signal just cuts out and times where it doesn't even work when you would even think it would. My dog found the "Out" spot in the WiFi and used it fully to his advantage. Unfortunately when we realized it he almost got hit by a car, instead the car hit our mailbox, thank goodness no one was hurt. The point of me writing my review is the mere fact that no one had said to much about what I am experiencing now and I really would just like to put it out there. I did not buy the system from flexpetz, but I spoke to one of their techs who were able to help me out and taught me what I should have known to begin with when it comes to a wireless fence. They talked to me a bit about what they had and gave me a great deal on a great system for our NJ home. Instead of going wireless, I went with another PetSafe system with wire. It works great with our layout and the land and trees. I have kept this system for our FL home because don't get me wrong, it worked wonderful there. I now understand the differences in the fences and why people buy different things for different situations. I did not understand that part before but should have looked more into it.

  2. One system for two houses Review by Luke (Perry NY)

We split our time between our home in NY and a place near the beach in NJ. My wife is able to spend the whole summer with the kids in Jersey and goes often for long weekends during the year. When we got a second dog and we decided to go with a wireless fence, I was thinking - oh no, this means the cost times two - one for each house. I was wrong. The great guy at Flex Petz explained that this system could go between houses. It goes back and forth with no problem at all. I feel like we got two for the price of one! (Posted on 4/4/2013)

  3. So excited! Review by Oreo and Family

I had a dog for 15 years. By the time I moved in to my current property, she was so well trained, that I didn't worry about fencing in my yard. After she passed, we recently got a new puppy - Oreo. I suddenly remember what having a puppy is like! I needed a fence. My freind reccomended this to me. I honestly was stressing the cost of any kind of fencing. She insisted the FlexPetz was affordable, and she was right. We have a small yard and I dont' consider myself to be handy. This wireless system is just what we needed. Perfect! (Posted on 2/20/2013)

  4. Can't wait to travel Review by Janice Rizzoli - Maine

When I ordered this system I had some doubts about how easy it would be to set up. I know it said that it's easy and that you can easily travel with it, but I'll admit I still penciled in an entire afternoon for set-up. Well, I had plenty of time left that afternoon for lunch and a pedicure. Set up really was easy as they say it is. I plan on doing some traveling this summer and I absolutely will be bringing this with me. (Posted on 2/14/2013)

  5. Great Features Review by Bob and Marley's Dad

I really liked this system overall. We have had no problems with it. It might be a silly thing but I like how they have different length probes for long and short haired dogs. Bob and Marley (my dogs) have really long hair. I was actually worried that the collars wouldn't work because of their really long hair. With the longer probes, I know that their hair won't interfere. The only thing that isn't perfect about the system is that you have to buy the PetSafe Batteries. (Posted on 2/6/2013)

  6. Perfect for a Renter Review by Jeremy Miller - Georgia

I am so pleased with this purchase. I rent my house and therefore can't do any major installations. This fence just needs an outlet to work. I don't plan on moving right now, but it's great to know that if I do move, I'll be able to take it with me. I literally only need an outlet (inside) to plug it in to and I can take it anywhere. The only thing that I wasn't thrilled with that the collars don't take rechargeable batteries. But all in all that is not a big drawback. (Posted on 2/4/2013)

  7. Happy Customer Review by Travis Houser - Texas

I am so happy with my purchase. My wife had her heart set on an invisible fence. I couldn't stand the thought of having to dig to install wires. This was the perfect solution. It is a great quality and I have had no problems with it at all. Also, FlexPetz staff was so helpful during the ordering process. I am suggesting all my dog-owning friends buy this system! 8. Great Solution Review by SueLynn

When we got a new puppy, I didn't even think about fencing. After a few weeks of walking the puppy every time he had to go out, fencing was all I could think about! I really did not want to ruin our view and open feel with traditional fencing. My husband did not like the the idea of digging underground to install an electric fence. Neither of us liked the cost of either. This was the perfect solution to all of our problems! I'm not very handy, so I looked at the installation instructions and gave them to my husband. It was beyond me. But my husband and his brother had it working in no time at all! (Posted on 1/22/2013)

  9. My wireless joy Review by Carol

When I first gave thought to buying a wireless fence I had no idea where to begin. I thought about going the in-ground route but I wanted to stay as far from heavy installation as possible. I did not own my home at the time so digging up the yard was out of the question. I really had no other options but I still was cautious about what brand to buy and at what price. I looked at products from several different web-sites and none of them offered products this feature rich and at such affordable prices. When comparing them It was obvious which one I should choose but I still did not want to buy a product that did not work so I did even more research on the product. Not once throughout the time I conducted my research did I find see or hear anything bad or slightly negative about The Pet Safe wireless fence. I decided to trust my gut and see what happened. I bought the wireless fence and I could not have made a better decision. It is wonderful and setup was as simple as plugging it into an outlet. I love the many features an see this finding to be a true blessing.

  10. I love technology Review by Isac

When I heard that I could get a wireless dog fence set up, and all I would need was an outlet, I was amazed by the thought. When I actually got the system I was even more surprised to find out that I could take it anywhere. I wish it covered more than 1/2 acre radius that sucked, But I did find out that I could expand the coverage area with additional transmitters. I plan to purchase additional transmitters and I will also write a review for them. With how great this wireless fence is, I am positive that the transmitters will make it that much better.

  11. Petsafe wireless fence Review by Kyle

I was looking into having a fence put up for my dog Lex. He has been a pain to train, he is very stubborn & kind of hard to deal with but I have had him since he was a puppy & have grown very attached to him. I was looking on-line at pricing of fencing & I have never heard of invisible fencing until I ran into this site flexpetz. Looking at the prices it seemed I had nothing to lose trying this product out.
So I invested in the Pet Safe Wireless containment system and all I can say is that I have never felt this good in a long time. This product has been great in helping me train and work on discipline with Lex. He is doing a wonderful job and our relationship is becoming so much greater.

  12. Wireless bliss Review by Sam

“ I recently purchased the wireless containment system and it is Truly an amazing piece of work.
I love the fact that it’s portable and covers a 1/2 acre of property. It can even cover 2 acres with additional transmitters. Now my dog can roam all around the “safe zone” where ever I go. I think that It was well worth the price paid to have a bigger better piece of mind."

I am using this now as a free test product and it is great and it is not hard to train your dog or cat

Dear Rosel,

Thanks for the update on the product that you are using. We appreciate the information and are glad to see that the system is working for you. The key to these systems is proper training and you are correct when you say it is not hard. Where it may not be hard to train them, it is vital to properly train the pet on their new boundary.

We have a Pet Safe transmitter S402-855, manufactured in 2005. It worked great for the black lab we had at the time. My husband says it isn't working right. We got a smaller collar for our Cocker Spaniel #N-13506. I talked to the people at PetCo and they couldn't find a unit that
would correlate with the collar. The collar is only about a year old and is rechargeable.
I have both units plugged in and will try again to see tomorrow how they are working. Do you
know a unit that would work with the current collar or do we have to buy a complete set.

Sorry Teresa, but I was unable to find anything that would correlate with either the transmitter or collar numbers that you provided. Is it a PetSafe collar that you have for your cocker spaniel? Is this a wired system or wireless? Is the collar wired or wireless? If it is a PetSafe collar and is not the YardMax model, it would be compatible with other PetSafe systems.

Hello Diane,
Thank you for reaching out to us, Yes this system is a great system for wireless fencing.
A base station is placed somewhere inside your home (has to be inside). The base station sends out a circular sphere signal around the property (strictly circular, you cannot change that). You can adjust the range anywhere from a 40 foot radius to as large as a 260 foot radius.
For many people, this does not work because the dog would be on the neighbor’s property, or out in the street (depending on your property).
Do you think this might be appropriate for you property?

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great day.

I have aluminum siding on part of my house. Will that be an issue?

Hello Brittany,

Thank you for reaching out to us.
Aluminum can interfere with the wireless signal.
You best best would be to go with a wired system.
I can help you find the right one for your pet/s. If you are interested reply back with your:
how much area?
What kind of breed do you have?
I look forward to hearing from you.

I am looking into getting a system ,, but I have metal siding,,, will it work with that?

It's likely that the siding will be a problem with standard wireless fences.

December 02, 2016

I have a 48 foot greenhouse in the back yard. (Metal frame) I assume this would interfere with the signal, but how much. I wonder, as it is not a solid structure. Can you give me some idea? Thank you.

I'm sorry. That one is really hard to gauge. Each scenario differs. It would mostly depend on the frame and how closely the metal parts are to one another. It would be much worse if you had a complete metal structure.
I wish I could give you an absolute answer, but you may or may not have frustrating issues with your shed.
If you could set your circular containment area to exclude that shed -you may be okay.
Otherwise, I might suggest considering a wired fence or (if your dog is 35 lbs or over) consider the GPS based D.E. Border Patrol wireless fence/trainer/tracker system. That one is not prone to all the same issues as WiFi based wireless fences are.
Hope that is of some help.

I have a great dane puppy who weighs about 130 lbs. He is extremely, extremely smart but very stubborn. We live on about 12 acres that used to be enclosed, but there are now holes in the fencing and he keeps escaping. In your experience, will the wireless systems be strong enough to gain his attention or do you always suggest the in-ground, petsafe stubborn fence for large breed dogs?

Also, if we DO have to go with the in-ground version, does it have to be enclosed as a loop or can we only run the wire along the places we don't want him escaping?

Sorry for all the questions. Thanks for your help!

Hi there Cate,

In general, we always would recommend a wired fence system over a wireless.
With wireless, you really need to be in an ideal environment for the system to be reliable. Also, the coverage is limited to smaller yards (typically 1 acre or less) and a circular containment area.
There is a PetSafe wireless fence, for which you can purchase a Stubborn Dog version of the wireless collar, as a separate line item. However, again -you would need to have the optimal environment as outlined on that wireless fence page.

The wired systems do have to be a closed loop to be effective, but are very configurable, and you can see many different layout ideas by clicking HERE.
You can just cover the areas that have escape holes in the existing fence (as per some of the layouts like "Avoidance Areas" layout or "Gate or Escape Points Installations" layout), if it is an economical layout. You would have to determine that based on where your holes are.

As for which system I would recommend, if your layout is going to require 500' of wire or less, I would recommend the PetSafe Pro Grade Stubborn Dog fence. However, if you will need more than 500' of boundary wire, you would be best to select the SportDOG Pro Grade dog fence system. The correction strengths are about the same, but the SportDOG starts you with 1000' of wire (rather than 500), and it's a work horse of a fence system.

Please feel free to contact us with any other questions you may have. We appreciate you shopping with us.
