Dog Fence Wire

As the most important part of your in ground fence system, the type of fence wire you choose to use should be carefully considered.  When considering what in ground dog fence wire to purchase, the first thing, and most important part of your decision, to consider is the gauge of your underground fence wire.  The gauge of the wire you select determines the durability and work-ability of the pet fence wire, and the expected lifetime of the system.

Comment / Questions about Dog Fence Wire

I have a narrow rectangular back yard that I want to fence in with a wired fence. However, I want to be able to easily let the dog out the back door. I looked at double loops but need to know how far apart they need to be to see if that is feasible. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you.

Hello Fred,
Thank you for reaching out to us.
If you want to do the double back you would need to have the wires at least 2-4 feet apart. Another way you may consider running your dog fence boundary wire in the "Front or Backyard Pinch" layout, as seen here: www.flexpetz.com/dog-fence-planning#pinch
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions.

How deep does the wire need to be buried?

With the manufacturer wire (typically 20 gauge), they recommend you bury it 1-3 inches deep.
If you opt for our eXtreme brand 14 gauge wire, you can bury it down as deep as 18 inches, if need be. However, you can also run that wire above ground and secure it down with landscape/yard staples (to ensure that nobody trips over it, the mower doesn't catch it, etc.)
