Medium Dogs (20 - 50 lbs)

Most electric dog fence systems are designed with a dog of average size and temperament in mind. For this reason, if you have a medium sized dog you'll have the largest selection of dog fence products to choose from. When selecting an electric dog fence for a medium sized dog you won't really have to worry about the receiver collar being to big so you can focus on selecting the fence system that best suits your situation. For example, the size of your property or the number of dogs you want to contain with your DIY dog fence system. 

All but the most basic electric dog fence systems feature multiple correction level settings, allowing you to tailor the strength of the correction to your dog's temperament. And in all but the most powerful systems (designed for very large and/or harder to train dogs) the range of correction levels available are perfectly suited for your average dog. In general, we recommend the Perimeter Technologies Deluxe Ultra to our customers with one or more dogs ranging between about 8 lbs. and 120 lbs. This system has a small and lightweight collar and a suitable range of correction levels for dogs of a variety of sizes and temperaments. If you have a medium-sized dog who is very timid, submissive, or compliant, you may want to consider an electric dog fence with even lower correction levels - one designed for small dogs. Likewise, if you have a medium sized dog with a history of "hard-headedness" or possibly of the guardian breeds (pit bulls, german shepherds, etc.) you may opt for a product that we've categorized for large dogs. 

Bark control is available in many forms. From static or spray correction collars to ultrasonic yard devices, there are different bark control devices to suit the needs of any dog owner. Spray, vibration, and ultrasonic bark control are suitable for dogs of any temperament and size so long as the collar (if there is a collar) fits the dog appropriately, which is not generally a concern for medium sized dogs. Static bark control, like electric dog fences, must be matched to your dog's size and temperament. And, like electric dog fencing, collars are generally suited to medium sized dogs. Look for a bark control collar with a relatively small receiver box size and one with a good range of correction level settings so you can carefully match the strength of the correction to your dog's personality. 

Remote trainers follow the same formula as the fencing and bark control. You need to find a remote training collar that is comfortably sized and features a good range of correction level settings so that you can find the most appropriate level for your dog. Like the above systems, you'll have the most choice when looking for a system for a medium sized dog so narrwing down the options can be a little harder. If your dog is on the smaller side of medium or particularly compliant and relatively easy to train you may want to opt for a smaller dog system with lower correction levels and a smaller receiver collar - like the Dogtra iQ Cliq. On the other side of the spectrum, if you have a dog on the larger side of medium who is also notoriously difficult to train you may want to look at a system designed for a bigger dog - one like the Dogtra Element
