Overview PetSafe YardMax PIG00-11115 ManualProduct Manual
The YardMax is the newest fence from PetSafe. This system takes the best features from all other PetSafe systems and adds a few new features. The YardMax system boasts one of the most compact and lightweight collars on the market, yet still manages one of the highest maximum correction settings as well as individual correction levels for each collar on the system, so its a great choice for most breeds and an equally good choice for single and multi-dog households. The YardMax collar is compatible with all 3 PetSafe Pawz Away indoor and outdoor barriers. The most exciting new feature is the system's namesake - the YardMax space-saving technology. In YardMax mode, the correction zone extends infinitely on the outside of your boundary wire to maximize yard space while making it more difficult for your dog to run through. Our PRO-Grade System adds professional-grade burial wire, dual function surge protector, ground staples, and an extended warranty.

Kit Includes
  • 20-Gauge Wire (500 ft.)
  • Basic Surge Protection Module
  • Dual Mode Transmitter
  • Rechargeable Collar Receiver
  • Collar Receiver Charger
  • 2 Waterproof Splice Kits
  • 50 Training Boundary Flags
  • Long and Short Receiver Contacts
  • Contact Point Training Caps
  • Test Light Tool/Contact Wrench
  • Installation/Training Manual

Collar Features

Small & Lightweight: The PetSafe YardMax collar uses a very small collar. Suitable for dogs as little as 10 lbs., the entire collar weighs only 3 oz. This collar is almost as tiny as the PetSafe Elite Little Dog PRO-Grade, but doesn't have quite as low correction levels.

Five Progressive Correction Levels: The YardMax offers 5 progressive correction level setting for each dog on the system. The correction levels are adjusted on the collar itself. Despite the small size, the correction levels range from medium to strong - stronger than the PetSafe UltraSmart system but not quite as strong as the Stubborn Dog.

Individual Correction: PetSafe has finally developed a system with individual correction level settings so you can effectively use a YardMax collar for each dog over 10 lbs. with its own correction level settings. No more mix & match PetSafe collars!

Rechargeable: The collar uses a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The collar battery is recharged by way of a charging cord that plugs into a port on the underside of the collar. The collar charges in about 2 hours and the charge lasts about a month.

Fit Test & Ready Test: A poorly fitted collar is the second most common problem leading to less than 100% containment (incomplete training being the #1 reason). The YardMax collar offers the Fit Test feature. This handy feature confirms that the collar is properly fitted each time you put it on your dog.

Short & Long Contact Points: The system comes with both short and long contact points as well as a contact point tool. The small wrench makes switching contact points easier. Long contact points are particularly useful for dogs with thick or long fur.

Pet Barrier Compatibility: The YardMax collar is compatible with PetSafe's Pawz Away Outdoor Pet Barrier, Pawz Away Indoor Pet Barrier, Pawz Away Indoor Mini-Pet Barrier, and Pawz Away Threshold Pet Barrier

Transmitter Features

YardMax™ Mode: The most exciting feature of the new PetSafe YardMax is the system's namesake YardMax™ mode. This is the first system ever to offer a unique space-maximizing feature that projects the correction zone only on the outside of the wire rather than in all directions so you can really make the most of your yard space.

Run-Through Prevention: The run-through prevention is another unique and really useful feature. Most dog fence systems have a set boundary width so the dog can actually run all the way through the boundary zone to where he is no longer being corrected but will receive a correction again if he tries to re-enter his yard. But in YardMax mode, the correction zone continues indefinitely on the outside of the boundary wire so the dog cannot run all the way through the boundary. For safety, the system still has a 10 second timeout on the correction, but this feature will really help with training.

10 Acre Capacity: The YardMax is capable of powering 10 acres. While this is suitable for most suburban properties, we wish it was strong enough to power larger rural spaces as well.

Lacks Backup Battery: This PetSafe system does not offer a battery backup for the transmitter. While this isn't a problem for many of our customers, it is certainly something to consider if you live in an area prone to power outages.

Do you like what you see, but want a wire that will last a whole lot longer before it begins to degrade and break down? Do you want a surge protector that does double duty (protects your fence system AND protects your home's internal electrical system from any lightning strikes that hit your boundary wire)? How about a 3 year warranty vs. a 1 year manufacturer warranty? Would you like your package to include a 1 year containment guarantee, so that you can be sure you invest in a product that will be sufficient to meet your dog's temperament and personality? If these upgrades and more strike your fancy, then perhaps you would rather invest in the PRO-Grade version of this fence system. This dog fence system is great. I have been in the market to find a great dog fence system. And I found it on the FlexPetz website. This dog fence system has met all my requirements of being an excellent product. The Yardmax feature makes this system very versatile and valuable to me. I have a smaller yard and this feature maximizes the area that my dog can roam. This system is great and provides tremendous value to dog owners.

This fence works fantastic. My training only took 4 days, and my Sasha was ready to roam.

My little Sasha learned so quick. I'm so proud of her, and happy with the Yardmax fence I got from Flexpetz. We have a half acre and needed all the containment space we could afford for Sasha.
The Yardmax only sends shocks outward from the yard, so no shock inside the wire. This is perfect.
We trained Sasha so quicky and now she is a happy, safe puppy doggie.
Thanks Flexpetz.

I needed some advice for the right electric dog fence for my Cocker Spaniel. I called FLEXPETZ because they offer free tech support and I could not be happier with the results. Given my lack of knowledge in this area I felt there service was focused on getting me the right advise not just sell a product. The tech asked all the right questions and drilled down on the right system for my pet and yard. The Yard Max was the right choice because I have a small yard and this new technology allows Kristy (My cocker) to use the entire yard. I also purchased the cheep factory wire. I am a renter and plan on moving in a year. I did not want to buy the high quality wire and leave it behind. The factory grade wire was the perfect solution and it saved me money today.

We went with the factory grade package. The Tech a FLEXPETZ gave us the most common sense advice on this purchase. We are only going to be in our house for about a year and were planning on purchasing a Pro Grade system. After discussing this important purchase with the Tech at FLEXPETZ we decided to go with a factory grade wire so we can leave it behind when we move. This save us money today and lots of effort in removing a wire for re-installation at our new house. We will be back to buy the Extreme wire to install at our dream home.

I purchased this system to help keep my pit mix from jumping the fence. The fence works great but the wire that is sent with it is junk. I contacted flexpetz and was actually surprised to find genuine and kind customer service from the folks over there (not common nowadays). I hate salespeople so like doing my own research, but the people at flexpetz were helpful enough to let me know about the different choices in wire and pros and cons of each one. They of course recommended their extreme wire but it was in a non pushy informative way. If you are looking to purchase give them a call as there is more to these fences than I realized.

Great System/High Price

We have a smaller 1/4 acre lot and got this system on the advice from one of the techs at flexpetz. We really were not looking to spend too much and after a bit of research all the systems seemed to work basically the same so I had a hard time justifying the higher price for this system. Boy was I wrong. After setting up the system and seeing how these work I now see the benefit of having the extra room with the transmitter in yardmax mode. The pro-grade system was also recommended and after seeing the wire that comes with the system I now see why. The system is working fine for now, but as soon as we start dealing with wire breaks I will probably be coming back and springing for the good stuff. I would definitely recommend this system and if in the budget go with pro-grade as it would be nice to only have to install once.

I was amazed by how effective the Full Yard mode function is. Our pup goes right up to the dog fence and stops. Even after walking him up to the flags, following all the suggested training steps, he still ran for the street when he snuck out of the house. He cleared the wire and suddenly yelped three times as he came around 180 and as soon as he was back in the yard, he relaxed. He hasn't crossed since. He hears the tone and backs off. My life is SO much less stressful.

We also have two of the indoor barriers away pet barrier than work nicely with the collar. The bedrooms are all upstairs and off limits, so we have a barrier at the landing and we have one at the entrance to the kids' playroom (cluttered with every possible small, very chewable item you can think of).

Flexpetz reps said they were working on a remote training remote that would work with the Yardmax collar. This would be awesome!

Our dog also digs, so we got one of the outdoor paws away rocks" and it works with the dog fence collar perfectly, keeps him out of the flower beds and away from the garbage can.

YardMax system with upgraded 16 gauge wire (1000 feet) and twisted wire cost about $425 delivered. Add on the cost of renting a trencher for $70 your at $500 for a quality system. Unless it's totally dry, I recommend a standard landscape edger over the edger that buries the wire as you go. It's slightly more work to put the wire in after the trench is dug but any type of damp or wet soil and the wire burying trencher gets clogged.
I installed the system myself and it took a total of about 8 hours. The instructions were pretty good. I had questions and Flexpetz was there to chat or talk on the phone which was great.
As for performance, its been up and running for one month. After about one week of flag and beep training, it took about 2 days of correction for our Yorkshire-Terrier -lhasa mix to stay in the boundary. He loves to chase small animals and this caused him to test it out a few times. Since the second day everything is working great.
Worth every bit of money and work as now we can let the dog out whenever he wants and he can also play outside with the kids without having to worry about him running off into the woods.
He has even bolted out of the house a few times without the collar and never crossed the line.
Great system.

I love the yard max mode, this is a really great system, nice small light weight collar. Wish the battery life was a bit longer I'm getting about 4 months of charge life right now, but guess its better than having to pay for propitiatory batteries. Review by Peter Wiggins (Posted on 8/21/2013)
