Compatibility between electric dog fence systems and electric dog fence collars vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. Some dog fence systems, like the best-selling SportDOG Containment Fence, are only compatible with one particular electric dog fence collar. Other manufacturers, such as PetSafe and Innotek offer inter-compatibility among their various collars and systems.

If you have multiple dogs of relatively similar size and temperament (2 labs, for example) you could choose a system with only one compatible collar option suitable for both dogs. If, however, you have multiple dogs of different sizes and temperaments, you’ll need a collar suitable for each dog. In this case we’d usually recommend a PetSafe system because of wide range of systems and the ability to mix and match compatible collars.
