We recently moved to Ft. Myers from Miami and we're exploring Sanibel Island when we happened to spot this restaurant with the funny name. Curious, we stopped, ...expecting comfort beach fare. I'm glad we did. The food, service and ambiance were no joke. The food was mouth-wateringly prepared and served by a friendly, informed staff. We had a sampler appetizer, and lobster mac and cheese. Delicious. The menu is enormous so we are probably destined to return several times to try them all. You should too. See More

Was not really happy with service just not attentive. I felt the bread for my little grouper sandwich, and I mean little piece for the money, was just too dense... it would have been better with a lighter bread to enjoy the fish. Used same bun on the burger my partner had, just way to heavy and dense. Will not be someplace I would return to. See More

worst dining experience this year...waitress with an attitude, 3 tables received drinks, refills, and food before we had drinks...2 hours waiting on our order a...nd when it came, a hair in the chicken salad and the gator basket wasn't even cooked...a request to speak to Managmemt brought a "supervisor" and the sent back (with NONE eaten) food not removed from the ticket without an additional complaint...needless to say, will not be going back as the only thing this place has going for it is the eclectic decor and island location...turn on some serious good wifi and turn it into a lounge for internet surfers, that would be more benificial than keeping it as an "island eatery"... We waited 40 minutes for a table which was what we expected. What we didn't expect was a waitress with an attitude. She served all the drinks over my sons head,... mixed up everyone's bill and said "maybe if I had looked at them it would help" then when she asked my husband if he wanted his change (we had a big group and 18% added on) When I told her yes we want the change she said "I have a 5 year old at home and am a single mom. We typically give a 20% tip but not with her attitude. Won't go back See More

There were 4 of us and we all agreed everything was awesome. Our waitress was really on top of it and she kept my hubbies diet coke filled which is a big deal ...for him. I dont eat grains and ordered the cheese,steak no bread and she didn't even flinch, it was no problem. Very accommodating. See More

Portions were great, menu choices are huge. We go every year when we visit Sanibel. Service is always a little slow but this time we could tell we were being a little rushed. We were obviously our server's last table for the afternoon. All in all a great experience.

Two days in a row thus far. Fun place. Great food. My mom had coconut fried red snapper and loved it. So fresh. I've had the cold peel and eat gulf shrimp both days. My favorite! Great fudge sundae too! We have dined her for years.

Always love the food! Employees need to get ready at home and not in the bathroom. There is not room for that, could barely get in and out and had to go into handicap stall to wash hands so she could get her makeup on in the mirror

This is a definite hot spot. Wait can be a little lengthy but the service is good and the food delish. Sizable menu with a lot of variety. Go during off peak hours to cut down the wait but, hey, it's island time!!!

It was the best meal we had eaten during our 5 day vacation on the Island. We would have come back for another meal but we had stopped to eat before heading home. I'm so glad we did! We are definitely planning on coming back.

My family and I are here tonight. I planned on ordering a pulled pork sandwich due to a seafood allergy. We informed the server (Heather) of my allergy as to no...t have any issues with cross contamination. She said it's fine, and no problem. When my food came out there were hush puppies on my plate. Good thing we asked about the hush puppies and French fries because they are cooked in the same oil as the fish. The server did not relay the message to the chef or is just not properly educated about the seriousness of food allergies. She acted like it was no big deal. There was no manager at the restaurant ever and the owner seems to be permanently unavailable . This was just unacceptable. See More

Extensive menu but I decided on the tuna wrap and my husband had the Philly Steak sandwich...HUGE portions and delicious! We also loved it that they are dog friendly on the patio. They even brought him some cold water with ice.

We have a baby and going out to eat is always a gamble. This place pumps out food SO fast it was great. I got a rack of ribs and mommy got shrimp and steak kabo...bs. Calamari appetizer came out in seconds, food directly after, waiter was really friendly. When they saw us come in they started cleaning a high chair (even though we didn't need one.)
The food was really good, and we had appetizers, dinner and drinks under $50
It's a must for visiting the island.

The worst Iv been to on this island the food was ok at best the service was ok but the mosquitos and sand fleas were horrible we sat inside and were are malled ...by them there were mosquitos in the basket of food and everywhere then to top it all off my wife orders key lime pie and it was bad to the point she bit into it and threw it up I've been to Most of the restaurants on this island and will never recommend or go back to this place See More

We have been here twice. Once about 6 years ago and the 2nd time on our family vacation today. #AMAZING. Nick was our waiter today, he was great and food was awesome. We will have to come and see you guys again before we leave.

5 stars because: the wait staff is incredible, the atmosphere is fun, especially on the patio, the drinks are refreshing, the menu is vast and varied, and the quality of the prepared dishes is far above what one might expect from a casual eaterie.

Nothing special! Left it to our last night on Sanibel/Captiva - staff weren't very friendly and I choose Tuna (that was well done instead of being medium rare!) chips and slaw very average!!

Best meal I've had on the island so far! My party of 5 was seated as soon as we walked in the door and the staff was great!

Get the Shrimp po' boy!! Awesome! Although my son says the fish basket was great too. My wife had the veggie burger(ugh!) and loved it. Service was great. All around A+

CLOSED FOR HURRICANE REMODEL: Unfortunately The Island Cow will be a couple of weeks before we re-open. A deeper inspection showed that a small part of our kitchen roof on the east side took a hit and needs to be replaced. We are going to take this opportunity to renovate our kitchen and re-open stronger and better than ever. Stay tuned for updates on our re-opening.

IRMA UPDATE: The Island Cow has not sustained much damage during Irma. We will be open as soon as possible.
