Electric Fence For Dogs Recommended By Veterinarians

Veterinarian Recommended

Veterinarians, trainers, and behaviorists agree that electric pet fences are not only completely physically safe for your dog, but also good for their emotional wellbeing. 95% of veterinarians would or do recommend electric dog fence systems to their clients as a safe and effective method of containing their pet.

In the early 1980’s The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine conducted a study to determine the safety of the electrical stimulation and collar contact points. The study revealed no evidence of injury to the skin, nor interference with the cardiac system of the dog.  In 2003 Tuskegee University conducted a similar study and came to the same conclusion that there are no lingering adverse physiological effects.

Top trainers and vets agree that unspent energy is the enemy of a well-behaved dog. Dogs who do not get the regular exercise they need often develop behavior problems. These behavior issues then cause stress and frustration in the owner, which usually makes the problem worse. In our busy world it’s not always feasible to take the dog for that much needed run at the end of a long day. An electric dog fence allows the dog the space he needs to run off-leash and get that much-needed exercise after being cooped up all day. This freedom to run, explore, and play makes for dogs that are more relaxed and easier to live with.

Some vets and behaviorists have also concluded that fences cater to a dog’s instinctual sense of boundaries and territory. Dogs are naturally territorial and even in the wild they live within a set of boundaries. Fences help your dog to understand the boundaries, feel safe within them, and confident that things that don’t belong inside will stay out. While a traditional fence also establishes boundaries, it inhibits the dog’s ability to observe what is happening on the other side, which can leave the dog feeling anxious and lead to escape attempts. An electric dog fence creates secure boundaries without inhibiting the senses that a dog uses to understand his environment. Visit here to find more information on electric fence for dogs.
